BioShock: Indefinitely Infinite

Ah, yes. Bioshock. The name that combines life with shock, the kind of shock that puts shivers down your spine! These games are great, and they are about to get greater. Follow through my recap of the previous Bioshocks and discover... Columbia! (Wait... Didn't we already find that place?)

 Bioshock
The original Bioshock, developed by Irrational Games, is a first person shooter with role-playing elements (released in 2007 for the Xbox 360 and the PC, and was later followed by a PS3 version) was a good game. As a matter of fact, it was a great game; and it had high scores across the board. This game was placed in Rapture, an underwater city that had fallen apart into a dreadful city chock full of mutants. It combined a spooky atmosphere with a wonderful story full of betrayal, Big [Puff]-Daddys, and lots of things that go BOO, the game also had snappy gun/plasmid (magic) play.

Bioshock 2
Bioshock 1 was succeeded by... You guessed it! Bioshock 2. Bioshock 2, however, was developed by 2K Marin. This game took place a number of years before the first one in the city of Rapture still, and you took place as the first Big [Puff]-Daddy! I felt this game was not as deep as the first one, it didn't pull you in as much, and the story wasn't the top notch quality I had come to expect after playing the first one. A new feature that was added was multiplayer. It was a nice addition, but getting beaten up by several club/turret/tommy-guns from people that were of higher level than you and have better unlocked items.. It got dull. The gameplay was about the same as the first one with not too much innovation or improvement. This brings me into the exciting part!...

Bioshock: Infinite
Bioshock: Infinite is currently being developed by Irrational Games (score!). The game is slated for a 2012 release, which seems like a far way off, but listen to the goodies they've been putting into this'n! First off this game is set in a new floating city called Columbia, which was launched by the United States government. The gameplay is much like Bioshock 1, first-person shooter with role-playing elements such as, leveling up certain skills and powers. You play as Booker DeWitt a former agent of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency who is asked to rescue an incarcerated woman by the name of Elizabeth, he finds her early on, but lots of plotty plot twists happen after.

Irrational Games has also decided to tinker with Unreal Engine 3 for this game (Bioshock 1 used a version of Unreal Engine 2.5). This version of Unreal Engine 3 that they are developing is awesome. The game just looks magnificent, it's hard to even believe the graphics in the video (gameplay video after the writing). A sample list of engine revamps from Technical Director at Irrational, Chris Kline is located here.

After researching and writing about Bioshock: Infinite. I have to say.. I'm totally freakin' stoked. This game is looking as polished as polished can be and it's two years from release time. Here's the gameplay video and yes, it's in engine.
